Car Windshield Crack: Repair Options & Safety Considerations

2 min readJan 8, 2025

Smaller ones may not be a problem; I mean, usually they won’t cause any problems and won’t break right away if you drive, I’ve driven around with cracked windshields a few times and had no problems other than a less than comfortable view. Some manufacturers offer crack sealers or fixers that offer a certain degree of success as long as you know what you’re doing, I’ve tried such products a few times and some were satisfactory and some were not, I suppose it all depends on price and quality

Bigger ones will be a problem because your view will be disturbed and dangerous; glass shards can fly and there is no guarantee the glass will hold up. In this case, it seems you have to replace the entire glass; you can’t use glass glue or whatnot in this case; the integrity of your glass is damaged and must be replaced.

The point is it all depends on how badly your glass is damaged; if it’s not too bad, you probably don’t need to replace it; a windshield glue will do; for big cracks, you have to replace the entire glass.
